Grassland Baseball League has been in existence since 1987 and proudly operates as a member of Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth Baseball Leagues. GBL is a non-profit organization serving over 500 families (over 700 children ages 5-17) each year with boy's baseball and girl's softball.Check back frequently for the latest information about our league.
Like many youth sports organizations in Tennessee, the Board of Directors for Grassland Athletic Association have developed and implemented a new policy to help protect our kids regarding concussions with regards to Tennessee's Public Chapter Act 148.
No youth athlete who has been removed from play due to suspected concussion may return to practice or competition until the youth athlete is evaluated by a health care provider and receives written clearance from the health care provider for a full or graduated return to play.
Should a player be removed for these reasons, please be aware that Grassland Athletic Association does not have any medical personnel at any of our fields who can release said player to return to action at any of our games or practices.
This release would have to be obtained by the parent from the appropriate medical personnel.
Grassland Baseball (of the GAA) is VERY Excited to Announce the 2014 80/54 Pony League for 13/14 year olds!
Why Grassland for my 13/14 year old?
Better Development. Bases will be at 80ft and Pitching mound at 54" as opposed to other leagues playing 90/60. While Grassland is a Cal Ripken League, we are affiliating with Pony League for this Age group as well. This past Fall we tested these Field Dimensions and had 5 Teams play and the response was tremendous!
Games were more exciting, high scoring and easier on the arms and therefore, better for development.
Pony League is National Organization like Cal Ripen but plays at 80/54 like most Rec and Travel Ball organizations outside of Middle Tennessee.
Can we Bring our own School, Neighborhood or Assembled Team?
Absolutely! 2 of our 5 teams from the Fall were NEW to Grassland and brought their own team.
ALSO, if you don't have an entire team but 4-5 kids that want to play together, we will pair you with another team. Our goal is to have a Min. of 10 teams in this age group so please help us spread the word! (We will also invite teams from other league to come play at the beautiful Grassland Park)
Will this interfere with Middle School Baseball?
No. The "80/54 Pony League" will start on May 5 after most Middle School games have ended. Our regular season is scheduled to end around June 14th with a potential League Ending Tournament from June 16th - June 22nd.
What Equipment Information do I need to know?
Cleats and Bats. This will be the first year that your son can wear metal spikes. They are welcome to continue to wear rubber cleats as well.
Regarding Bats, you can use any Big Barrel bats (not to exceed 2 5/8 in dia.) as well as Drop 3 Bats (as long as they are "BBCOR").
Is there an All-Star Tournament Team?
Yes. We will have at least one All Star Tournament team and possibly two. We will send a team to Pony League Tournaments and maybe Cal Ripken as well.
When is the Registration Deadline?
March 31st is the deadline for the "80/54 Pony League". This is later than the rest of the Divisions in Grassland because we start later.
